Cilbar is Founded by The Bana Family.
The Bana family have been involved in clothing industry since 1932, originating with Banco Wholesalers, founded by the late Mr. Ismail Bana and his 5 sons.
From humble beginnings, Banco Wholesalers scaled rapidly creating a vertical operation and investing heavily in infrastructure.
With 5 companies including Cilbar & Co, Banco Wholesalers covered every aspect of clothing, supplying over 6000 retailers.

In 1994 Cilbar & Co became independent and set their focus to outsource manufacturing to China. Cilbar & Co quickly became a major supplier to all chain stores in South Africa
​
In 2003 Cilbar & Co set its focus to supply the Edcon Group, in particular Jet and Edgars. In a span of 8 years Cilbar & Co was dispatching over 1 million garments per month.
The future of sales lies in adjusting to the rapidly progressing technological advancements and creating added value to stay relevant. Cilbar & Co is looking to position itself in the online market to expand its current operations and scale the future growth of e-commerce on the African continent.

COMPANY HISTORY
Since 1932, the Bana family have been involved in the clothing industry. Banco Wholesalers
was founded by the late Mr Ismail Bana and his five sons. From humble beginnings, Banco
Wholesalers scaled rapidly by creating a vertical operation and investing heavily in
infrastructure.
Cilbar was founded in 1963 as one of five companies under Banco Wholesalers, covering every
category of clothing and servicing over 6000 customers. In 1994, Cilbar became independent
and set their focus on outsourcing all manufacturing to China. Cilbar soon became a major
supplier of private labels to all major chain stores in South Africa. In 2003, Cilbar set its focus to
supply the Edcon Group, namely Jet, Legit and Edgars. In just eight years,
Cilbar was dispatching over one million garments every month.
In 2020, Africa Clothing was established and has been developing divisions across a variety of
categories, enabling the brand to service all areas of industry with our newly formed yet
experienced team.

Our team comprises of fashion and retail industry professionals with a wealth of experience.
Currently, we have a combined experience of over 200 years, coupled with an extensive family
history in fashion. Africa Clothing aims to work exclusively with expert staff and factories to offer
our clients a premium and efficient service.
